How to See Faeries

More people keep asking me how to see faeries, so I’m reposting this 2012 article, along with a video. Also, check the comments for another good video. 🙂

Laura Bruno's Blog

Several people have asked me how to see faeries, so I thought I’d share this short video from a New Zealand shaman raised near where Rivendell was filmed in “Lord of the Rings.” Can you see the faeries and nature spirits in this video? They’re there!

Most people find it more effective to part the veil through peripheral vision rather than a sharp focus front and center. You might find it easier to notice the beings in this video if you soften your gaze and allow lighting anomalies to register on your consciousness. Before watching, give your mind permission to report the information as it comes through, rather than carefully censoring and interpreting the data.

This is a good practice anytime you hope to see things outside of “normal” experience. Our brain discards information or reinterprets it based on earlier concepts and expectations. If you read the comments on the…

Elicia Miller ~ Understanding Eating Disorders & How to Heal

I am so glad my colleague Elicia Miller made this important video, which I know will speak to many!

In this video you will learn:

  • Elicia’s journey with her eating disorders from age 15 – 39
  • What is at the root of eating disorders
  • Why cleansing, fasting, and extreme restrictive diets and exercise are other forms of bulimia
  • Why telling other people that your diet is the best way to eat is coming from your own shame
  • How to recognize an unhealthy relationship with healthy food and your body
  • How to release the chains of perfectionism
  • Why just changing your thoughts about yourself and/or letting yourself eat whatever you want doesn’t heal your eating disorders
  • How to be supportive, and not shaming, of someone who struggles with their relationship to food, their body and their emotions

Elicia’s Core Emotional Healing programs are good for anyone struggling with eating disorders, addictions, physical and emotional symptoms and/or relationship struggles. Since we share so many clients, I have witnessed huge changes in people who’ve had the courage to work with Elicia on these issues. Many thanks for sharing your story and professional experience!

Finding Your Own Center

Another 2014 post wants to go up again. Just substitute today’s headlines for the ones I mentioned then. My heart goes out to anyone facing challenges or feeling like another guru, politician, city, and/or religion has let you down. More and more, we need to return to our own true center, from which we radiate any positive influence we can ever hope to have in this world. Your path is YOUR path, and your path always offers choices.

Coming back to center allows us to address the scary things from a position of strength, to grieve the loss from a place of regeneration, to transmute anger or outrage into positive, healing actions. Peace in, peace out. This, too, shall pass.

Laura Bruno's Blog

It’s always so interesting to read or watch world or national events “unfold” online and then have a session with someone from that area who usually provides me with very different details and experiences. So far today I’ve spoken with someone in Japan (who initially contacted me right after Fukushima) and another person who just left Kiev and plans to return for awhile to see their lover before returning to their own country. Tomorrow, I speak with a Nevadan who happens to be married to a California farmer who’s well aware of “riparian rights” and the huge implications of “changing regulations.”

I have another friend traveling in Japan and China right now, and Goshen’s got a large Ukranian population — not that I know any of them. Yesterday, I received word that my high school experienced a “three hour lockdown” as someone had called to say armed men entered the…

Garden Update: Late Summer Colors, Crops, Kundalini and Moldavite

I’ve been waiting for the asters to bloom before putting up a new garden update. Finally, they did this weekend! Last Friday brought such chilly temperatures that I actually needed to turn on the cozy fire while writing in my morning journal:

IMG_1345

Those cold temps meant one struggling tomato plant gave up the ghost and got replaced by more chard, spinach and golden beet seeds. The lettuce I planted a couple weeks ago is also enjoying the cooler weather — good thing, too, because all my other lettuce has gone to seed!

IMG_1358

In addition to those glorious mums, the nasturtiums have filled their beds with gorgeous hints of autumn:

IMG_1365

The impatiens look so much happier with some cooler days, as well. You can see them here next to more mature beet greens and some parsley. It’s been a bumper summer for parsley! I’ll need to figure out how best to freeze herbs, because the parsley this year has gone gangbusters.

IMG_1359

The lone Autumn Beauty sunflower stowaway from Goshen so wants to bloom, but continues its shyness even today:

IMG_1355

When it finally does bloom, I think it will match that purple maple, with hints of red, as well. The asters finally bloomed, so I have high hopes for this sunflower, visible right from the front window, too.

IMG_1364

Wildlife continues around here, but I’m happy to report no groundhogs. The day I posted about the cat napping with me on the back porch, the larger groundhog, Kalamazoo Kal, reappeared after 10 days of no show. At first he just ate clover, and I thought, “Oh, should I just let him nibble?” Just at that moment, he glanced up and apparently noticed the backyard hostas for the first time ever. I could literally hear him think, “Hostas!!!! Yum!” and he immediately ran faster than you’d think a groundhog could run, directly towards the hostas, right under our back window.

And so, Kalamazoo Kal got the boot. Or in this case the window. I opened and closed the window, and he dashed away, never to be seen again. The cat came back the next day, and this morning I noticed we have a second, smaller kitty patrol for the days when my black and white friend makes rounds elsewhere. In any case, I’m happy to report that the pepper and coreopsis plants Kal had previously decimated have both recovered enough to fruit and/or flower:

IMG_1360

That hummingbird mint above is also true to its name: I saw a hummingbird on Friday, as well as an eagle high above a native plant garden across the street. I also heard an owl land on our roof right above me last week, along with frequent flyovers of crows, hawks and geese. No shortage of wildlife here!

IMG_1361

The front yard garden temporarily attracted a young bunny, but Ms. Rabbit got a little too aggressive with my tomatoes. Really?! Just one bite out of five of them? Gross. Soooo, I asked the cat to scent the front garden again, and I’ve not seen anymore damage to my crops. The bunnies are welcome to nibble on dandelions and chew down the grasses that I really need to weed out of the vinca/strawberry/thyme/clover beds. Really, have at it on the weedy ground! I just draw the line at sampling my tomatoes to the point of un-usability. Our counter currently has about 20 green ones pre-harvested just so we get some.

In any case, life continues transitioning from late summer into fall. The air feels crisp, and the backyard pots have sprouts of arugula, chard and lettuce, too. Garlic season approaches, along with daffodils, ornamental alliums, more irises, day lilies and fritillaria. I’m not entirely sure how I’ll get those hundreds of bulbs planted. In addition to the groundhog guidance to grow a smaller garden, a bizarre injury/kundalini expansion/magical discipline has reined in my normally huge garden ambitions and “forced” me to get a jump start on major research for future novels. It’s a neck injury, but it expresses as pain in my higher dimensional heart chakra.

I’m fine, so long as I avoid three particular motions, all of which get used frequently when gardening. Meanwhile, I can work out on exercise equipment in our basement with no problem, walk around the neighborhood with no issues, and do anything related to writing. If I get over-ambitious with the gardening, though, whammo! I get a huge ahem from my neck and chest. My chiropractor friend tells me that it’s a deep tissue injury that normally would be causing a lot more issues than it is. I attribute the minimal impact to the HUGE transition this move has been and continues to be for us.

David and I had set very clear intentions of how our lives would shift. I even made sigils to encode and support those intentions, and the level of guidance and synchronicities during this whole process have been off the charts, including all the shamanic gardening experiences. We are still in process of a great sea change. Anything I do moving in the new direction feels fine, strong, supported. Anytime I make a habitual turn towards something lovely that no longer serves a purpose in our lives, the “injury” stops me in my tracks.

I can feel my higher heart chakra — the area between the usual heart chakra and throat chakra — getting a complete reboot. In fact, the main thing that provides relief is wearing moldavite, a potent stone I also needed to wear for several months straight after a kundalini “injury” to my sacrum back in 2010, when I was also making a huge life change after my divorce but pre-David. I was painting portal doors in Chicago then, and our recent move feels like another huge revelation of how those doors have opened to real life. My biggest shift seems to be from urban farming to kitchen gardening, transitioning all the newly available time and energy towards research and writing.

I’ll share more some other time, as I’m also in the midst of some yet to be determined physical changes, including appearance. In one of those winks from above, my “injury” has forced David and me to switch sides of the bed, which means I literally wake up on the other side of the bed each day. From big to seemingly insignificant but symbolic shifts, we both feel carried along by change that flows steadily, though incrementally on. Whenever we catch our breaths, we realize just how fast the water’s moving and feel ever so grateful for this journey!

Blessed Be … and be the blessing. 🙂

Pink Orbs at the 2017 Solar Eclipse

Timothy Glenn ~ Heads Up, Keep Your Head Down

Many people privately have inquired what David and I are doing for the eclipse. Are we traveling to see it? Will we be doing something special? The simple answer is no, not really. We’re nowhere near the path of the eclipse, and David needs to work.

The longer, more accurate answer is that even if we were near the path of the eclipse and David had loads of vacation time left after our move, we still wouldn’t be traveling to watch the eclipse. It’s a potent portal, yes, and because it’s so potent, I intend to utilize those energies in the strongest, most focused way possible. For me, that doesn’t mean gathering in large crowds of uncertain, chaotic energy. It means spending time in nature  on that day and then during the actual eclipse window, going inside and doing a Reiki Healing Attunement for David and me, plus Reiki support for those who signed up for the August Special.

Timothy Glenn’s post today echoes this kind of quiet, indoor contemplation during the eclipse. He cites ancient Vedic texts, and I find it interesting, yet not surprising that these align with Native American Wisdom, as well. Yesterday, my friend Mitch sent me an interesting interview called, “Why Native Americans will not be watching the solar eclipse.” It’s a newscast to help teachers understand cultural differences so that Native American children will not be pressured or forced to participate in outdoor eclipse events.

To each his or her own. To quote Tim, “As always, there are no rules … merely principles.” We offer this only as a suggestion for experiencing the eclipse in the most positive, spiritually uplifting ways. Please use your own discernment, and I wish you well whatever you choose to do. Here’s Timothy Glenn:

Heads Up: Keep Your Head Down

With all the crowds flocking to see the August 21st total solar eclipse in the United States, it might help to invoke a bit of wisdom passed along through the ages from the Vedic tradition. This involves about three and a half millennia of observation and practice, so maybe those old sages could offer a word of caution here.

Vedic astrologers have traditionally avoided getting directly involved with eclipses. The most common method is to remain indoors, pull down the blinds, close the curtains, and do your spiritual practice. There are even specific prayers, dietary recommendations, and a variety of other practices designed for such times.

The same goes for some of us western astrologers, although there are naturally some differences in the specifics of the lore.

Keep Your Head on Straight

The title of this article is a bit tongue-in-cheek. It isn’t a suggestion to duck down or bow your head. In fact, many of our most effective spiritual practices involve holding our head up straight, keeping the central column aligned.

The suggestion here is that if you wish to avoid the lunacy and any potential psychic infection, don’t go outside to look up at the eclipse and make direct contact with those energies. The sun and earth share a natural bond. The cords that connect them become disrupted by any solar eclipse, and all the more so when you find yourself in the path of totality. This admonition still seems to come as news to people in the west, despite its antiquity.

As always, there are no rules…merely principles.

The Unleashing

During a solar eclipse, a curious phenomenon happens when the earth and sun have their connection interrupted. Elemental energies are unleashed from the moon onto the Earth. This effect is intensified in the path of the eclipse, and therefore reaches its maximum wherever the moon covers 100% of the sun. Strange things can happen in that shadow.

These elemental influences can manifest as chaotic, frenetic, and just plain loony. People are affected in a wide variety of ways. Much depends on who we are, what we have been doing with our lives, and what kinds of substances we have been consuming for the occasion. As a result, it can throw off almost anyone’s balance.

Effects can be immediate, or they can act like a time release capsule. Effects can be subtle or drastic. Another factor to consider is where the eclipse is occurring in someone’s natal chart, and also in their current solar return chart. These elementals are drawn back into the moon at the next lunar eclipse.

Welcome to the Loony Bin

When the solar eclipse precedes the lunar eclipse, we have about two weeks of this extracurricular elemental activity. However, 2017 is throwing a curve at us. Since the lunar eclipse came first, the next lunar eclipse after this unleashing of elemental energies will not happen until January 31, 2018.

Factoring in even a handful of the insane dramas being played out on the world stage, more than five months of these lunar (or loony) influences may push a few folks over the edge. We can expect an even wilder political circus to entertain us during this phase of the planetary shift.

The overall effects of this eclipse will echo down through the months until the end of January. International boredom will probably not occur.

Walk the Middle Path

What would the Buddha do? Would he jump into the path of the total solar eclipse and come out joining sides in a political scuffle? Maybe not.

He might recommend that we stay centered in the infinite love that eternally dwells in our hearts, and stay as balanced as possible. What a guy.

Quick Tips for Interacting with Faeries

This one wants to go up again. For all those people interested in working with faeries or their human emissaries … Faery Rules are key! Learn ’em and live ’em.

Laura Bruno's Blog

I just returned from a book group during which people had questions about connecting with the Faery Realm. Since many people ask similar questions, I thought I’d share just a few tips here. Please bear in mind that this is not a comprehensive list!

1. Do you see them with your eyes? How can I see them with my own eyes?

Yes, sometimes I do see them with my physical eyes, but it is much more common for me — and many, many others, including prolific faery authors and people who’ve worked with faeries for decades — to recognize faeries with the inner eye. If you try too hard to focus with the outer eyes, then even the little glimpses you do catch often fade in an instant.

It is worth keeping in mind that:

a) Many faeries are extremely private and do not wish to be seen. Faery Lore…

Revelations, Revolutions and Spin

It seems like a good time to repost this February 2014 piece. Please, be careful what sort of revolution you unwittingly usher in. Revolution just goes in a circle. Evolution actually makes progress. Big difference, which stems from both discernment and responsibility.

Apparently, most people in spiritual circles have not studied the history of revolutionary and civil wars around the world. For whatever reasons, I have. People who throw gasoline on fires get burned. Please, be the peace in the world. Stay centered. Remain prayerful and focused on the beauty, joy and harmony you’d most prefer.

Blessed Be. And, please … be the blessing.

Laura Bruno's Blog

The people who’ve run this world for at least 12,000 years are con artists.

They know what to reveal, when and how. When they get caught at one thing, they divert, obfuscate or find a scapegoat to bear the brunt of punishment for their own psychotic games. They prey upon a humanity with little to no independent imagination left — a humanity happy to outsource their imagination to tell-LIE-vision, movies, commercials, watered down Faery Lore turned into cotton candy, butterfly “fairy tales” and Common Core. Recognizing their own inadequacy to create, they’ve co-opted humanity’s innate creativity and used it for their own nefarious ends. Now that some alternative media icons have busted them, they’ve begun to spin things the other way.

I don’t even know where to begin with this post, because I’m just shaking my head at what passes for “revelations” these days — at what people gobble…

Timothy Glenn ~ Lunar Explorations

He’s ba-a-a-ck! After his last post rocked many a worldview, Timothy Glenn returns as promised to discuss the moon and its influence. How to introduce this post? Hmmm … here’s what Tim said in his email to me:

“The moon is currently part of our experience. We can learn to deal with it, work around it, or even utilize it without surrendering to its influence. The suggestion here is to exercise vigilance so as to make informed choices. Again we swing back to Carl Gustav Jung: ‘Don’t fight forces, use them.’”

“The only thing you can ever know for sure, is that you can never know anything for sure.”

And with that intro, here’s Timothy Glenn:

Lunar Explorations

Let’s explore theories of the origin and nature of the moon. Indigenous peoples and ancient writers have spoken of the time before the Earth had the moon. She was inhabited by humans, who passed on their remembrances of life on Earth when there was no such thing as the moon we now have.

The July 1970 edition of the journal Sputnik featured an article by Russian scientists Mikhail Vasin and Alexander Shcherbakov: “Is the Moon the Creation of Alien Intelligence?” Since then, a variety of scientists around the world have chimed in on this valid question.

An early book on the subject is Our Mysterious Spaceship Moon, by Don Wilson, copyright 1975. The title of a 2006 book by Christopher Knight and Alan Butler asks: Who Built the Moon?

There are plenty of anomalies regarding the moon and its orbit, not to mention outright absurdities when viewed in the light of current science.

A Zulu Perspective

Perhaps the best known example of indigenous lore in this area comes from Africa. For decades, Credo Mutwa has served as the lineage holder of Zulu shamanic tradition, and carries the ancient history of his people; a history that stretches back to the Golden Age before the moon arrived.

According to Credo Mutwa, two extraterrestrial reptilian brothers, Wowane and Mpanku, stole the moon from an entity called the Great Fire Dragon. The moon was analogized as an egg, which the brothers hollowed out by removing the yolk. They rolled the moon across the sky to Earth. That event marks the time when Earth’s Golden Age ended, and people started going crazy. After all, where do we get the word lunatic?

These two brothers, strikingly reminiscent of Enki and Enlil from the ancient Sumerian writings, then demanded obedience from the inhabitants of Earth. They threatened that they would move the moon and cause massive destruction if the Earthlings defied the brothers’ authority. Already traumatized by the loss of their Golden Age, the human acquiesced.

Paradise Lost

Credo Mutwa says that before the moon came, the Earth was surrounded by a canopy of water vapor. Some Christian teachings describe the firmament mentioned in the book of Genesis the same way. These conditions created a greenhouse effect that resulted in extremely lush flora, with towering trees and magnificent flowers. There were no seasonal changes, which means no winter. No one ever got sunburned, because the sunlight was diffused by the canopy to eliminate harsh glare. Storms were unknown, as everything was gently watered by mist.

When the moon arrived, it wreaked havoc. The water canopy rained from above, and the force exerted by the moon caused the Earth herself to tilt, altering her orbit. From then on, the oceans had strong tides. Many other cycles began at that time, including menstrual cycles. The life forms on Earth adapted to the new environment in whatever way they could.

NASA: Never A Straight Answer

Since this section comes from NASA, we can take it with a pound of salt. In 1969, Apollo 12 jettisoned its lunar module, which crashed onto the moon. They reported that the moon reverberated like a bell for more than an hour. The following year, Apollo 13 repeated the procedure, but actually commanded the lunar module to strike the moon’s surface. Again, the moon rang like a bell, but the reverberations lasted for three hours, twenty minutes.

Not even crashing meteors or nuclear explosions cause the Earth to produce any such effect. Most scientists have concluded that the moon must be hollow, just as Credo Mutwa said it was hollowed out before being brought to Earth. Carl Sagan said, “A natural satellite cannot be a hollow object.”

Then we have the phenomenon of the moon rocks, which have been analyzed and estimated to be more than half a billion years older than the Earth herself. The list goes on, and too many pieces of the lunar puzzle simply don’t fit the standard narrative. One of the oddest puzzle pieces is that there is no such thing as the dark side of the moon; the far side of the moon, yes, but not the dark side. The moon remains stationary in its orbit, not rotating, but always showing the same side to the Earth. This also means that the moon is perpetually hiding its far side from us. Natural? Not likely.

Food for the Moon

The Gurdjieff/Ouspensky writings offer considerable material on the nature of the moon. Peter Ouspensky wrote and lectured extensively on what George Gurdjieff had taught him, including Gurdjieff’s perspectives on the functions and effects of the moon.

“Everything living on Earth, people, animals, plants, is food for the moon.”

Lance White, host of A Fireside Chat with Zany Mystic, spent several years formally studying the Gurdjieff/Ouspensky Fourth Way material. As brevity is the soul of wit, he condenses the message to: “The moon eats souls.”

The Cosmic Recycling Department

While living in this biosphere, all life forms have energy siphoned off by the moon and by various entities as well. But upon death, the souls are drawn into the moon. According to the Proterrian channelings, the moon serves as the cosmic recycling department. Even the more awakened humans here on Earth are taught that they will follow a tunnel into the “light”. It’s actually a tractor beam, pulling the souls into the moon.

They also anticipate being greeted by loved ones or by some “spiritual” representative of the “heavenly” hierarchy. The caveat here is that the Beings who make up the recycling crew can read you clearly, and ascertain which person or persons would be most effective in luring you into their program. They can mock up the manifestation of someone you would trust, knowing how they would look, sound, talk and act.

To help us get a feel for this phenomenon, there is an old Star Trek Voyager episode called Coda, wherein Captain Janeway has a near death experience. Her “father” is there to greet her, and wants to take her through a portal into his world. You can easily find the pertinent clip on YouTube, usually entitled something like “Janeway versus evil alien”.

Getting With the Program

No other Being can force you to reincarnate back into the Earth Matrix. However, they can deceive, seduce, mislead and somehow convince you that you need to return. Their modus operandi is to convince you that you still have lessons you need to learn and/or you have karma to work off and/or you have relationships to heal. Once you have agreed to this program, you will receive a complimentary memory wipe on your way back into the Earth Matrix. Good luck on your mission. You volunteered.

Their method of persuading you to return is called a life review. Many here on Earth are being prepped for this by well-meaning teachers who truly believe this is an essential experience. On one level, it is…if you want to keep giving your power away and recycling through the Matrix.

This is not to indicate that everyone is sucked right in and shot right back down. If a soul drawn into the moon believes it has earned a place in some sort of “heaven”, it will happen; but their “heaven” will be contained within the Cosmic Matrix. If they believe they will be able to look after loved ones on the Earth, it will happen. But eventually, the vast majority will be persuaded to reincarnate. There might just be an important mission that only special souls like you can achieve, and the poor people on Earth really need your help. Can’t resist? Good luck on your mission. You volunteered.

Deal With It

Lunar apologists will point to what they believe to be the beneficial aspects of the moon, and some will emphasize that there are higher octaves of the lunar energies. Sure, there are higher octaves of literally everything, because everything is part of The Field. But within the context of our current reality, caution is recommended.

The moon is currently part of our experience. We can learn to deal with it, work around it, or even utilize it without surrendering to its influence. The suggestion here is to exercise vigilance so as to make informed choices. Again we swing back to Carl Gustav Jung: “Don’t fight forces, use them.”

In the comments section of the previous article, Eclipsing Our Reality, Kieron offered a springboard for those who wish to begin their research:

https://veilofreality.com/the-esoteric-significance-of-our-moon-and-the-matrix-control-system/

This obviously challenges a lot of entrenched beliefs. But if our ideas cannot withstand scrutiny, then those ideas need all the more scrutiny.

Philosophical Skepticism

To be skeptical is not merely to doubt or disbelieve. Etymology traces the root back to the ancient Greek word skepsis: inquiry, study, research, investigation, examination or inspection. The genuine skeptic avoids the pitfall of accepting theories at face value, preferring to explore the possibilities.

An open heart combined with intellectual honesty is the best policy. One of the quirks of the human mind stems from the insecurity of needing to accept or reject ideas on the spot, pretending we know. A popular saying has helped alleviate this: “My jury is out.”

As of the early 90’s, I have opted to view myself as an ever-changing bundle of ever-changing perceptions in the midst of an ever-changing universe. That doesn’t leave a lot of room for belief. Let’s close with Proterrian’s favorite paradox:

“The only thing you can ever know for sure, is that you can never know anything for sure.”

Garden Update: Cat Naps, Fairy Crossing, and Shades of Fall

The magic continues at our new place. The wonderful neighborhood cat, who so successfully shooed away the groundhogs and scents the garden whenever bunny nibbles get too big, has taken to napping with me, just outside the sliding glass door. Whenever I decide to take a quick BioMat snooze in the back room, I usually find something like this:

IMG_1317

or this:

IMG_1316

or acrobatic feats of backscratching on the red maple. Close up, I’ve realized just how amazing this little feline is, since he? she? (that energy seems to shift, too), is actually quite small to have scared away two groundhogs. Methinks it’s a faery cat putting on Glamour to seem far larger, because I watched this little one project an almost bobcat sized presence that sent both 30+ pound Kalamazoo Kal and slightly smaller Tucker Rat Boy whistling and fleeing not only our yard but the yard across the street, too.

I’m ever so grateful, but this kitty is so independent. It’s like don’t leave out clothes for brownies or they’ll leave forever. Once I apparently offended the cat by leaving a bowl of water outside, but now I know: kitty does his/her thing, and I do mine, fuhgeddaboutit. It’s nice to have a napping buddy, though, especially since I only take cat naps myself. 😉

Meanwhile, sync winks continue wherever David and I go. Two weekends ago, we took a day trip to Grand Rapids and I had David snap a photo of these amethyst bunny ears and tortoise for my faery twin Tania Marie.

IMG_1313

Upon closer inspection, Tania noticed a reference to her bunny Joy, and I noticed the painted “street” signs behind that look remarkably like this housewarming gift from our sweet friends Tracy and Chip:

When it arrived, I wasn’t sure where to put this little beauty outside, because I thought it should demarcate an actual fairy crossing. Most of the garden fairies in our yard stay in their beds. I temporarily put the post by our front door, near the nudge-nudge-wink-wink porta portal that says, “Not all who wander are lost.” After a couple weeks, it dawned on me just how often I go in and out to and from my front yard kitchen garden. Fairy crossing, indeed. David, of course, had gotten the reference right away. It seems my little jokes are so often on me, but eventually I catch on. 🙂

In any case, cyclical time rolls on, whether or not I catch the giggles. I’ve made some delectable babaganoush sandwiches using garden fresh eggplant, parsley, garlic, tomatoes and lettuce, with a little lemon juice, smoked paprika and powdered peanut butter instead of tahini. Unbelievable when you “grill” the eggplant in the Avalon air fryer! And those late summer tomatoes…….. mmmmmm, I can’t even say how good those are.

IMG_1287

I mostly grow eggplant because it’s pretty, but come harvest time, I remember how much I love babaganoush, eggplant curry and grilled veggies:

I spent yesterday transplanting balloon flowers and salvia and planting seeds of chard, spinach, beets, arugula and gourmet lettuce blends for fall crops. Critters willing, we should have some yums from front and backyards. The mums and nasturtiums are really blooming now, too, giving just a glimpse of Autumn peeking around the next Turn of the Wheel:

Wishing you and yours a gorgeous late Summer. Enjoy the bounty. And the beauty.

Medical Intuitive Diagnosis

Since I end up sharing this post at least several times per week via private email, I think this wants to go up again. Your body never betrays you. Really.

Laura Bruno's Blog

Ahhhh, the elusive Diagnosis! That tricky non-entity that drives so many sincere seekers my way. It’s ironic, because from a medical standpoint, I am not legally allowed to provide a diagnosis or “prescribe” treatment. All I can do is read people’s energy, note “dark” or “red” spots, static, blockages, and other aberrations, and share whatever else floats into my brain — be that past lives, herbs for people to investigate, the name of a treatment provider, questions, words or phrases. Sometimes I “see movies” or feel pain; sometimes a map lights up; other times an ignored but crying for attention life path reveals itself. A Medical Intuitive Diagnosis is not the same as a Medical Diagnosis! Not by a long shot. But sometimes, that’s a very good thing indeed.

Traditional Diagnosis Dynamics

As a survivor of a Traumatic Brain Injury and the former spouse of someone with Advanced and Chronic…

Don’t Slay Me with the Layout

In case you’re wondering why you haven’t seen the published edition of my 8th book yet, The Difference Between Pain and Suffering, it’s because formatting and cover design guru Ramajon Cogan, editor Tony Kessler and I, Catherine Carrigan, the author, have been close to driving ourselves crazy trying to get it right. When you publish a book, […]

More Pretties

David and I are on the receiving end of another bouquet, and it’s just too pretty to keep to myself. Thanks again to Mitch for the beautiful belated housewarming gift. After having given away hundreds of bouquets since early 2013, these flower deliveries underscore a persistent theme of receiving — already planted trees, previously landscaped yard, huge flowering perennials that hadn’t yet found their strength in Goshen. And huge bouquets picked and arranged by someone else, then brought to our door. This one features lots of orange for my half-Dutch hubby, too:

Delphiniums, asters, carnations, lilies, Gerber daisies, roses and what are those little pink beauties? Anyone know? I’d love to plant some. 😉

Garden Update: Rain! Plus, More Helpers “Reporting for Duty”

After many prayers and much intending, we finally got some deeply needed rain last Thursday and Friday. With so many local trees obviously struggling and very dry, hard ground, I had hoped for a long, gentle rain, and that’s exactly what we received! It rained just enough on Thursday to prepare the ground, and then on Friday, we got a full day into the evening of very slow, misty rain, kind of like nature’s version of a soaker hose. I could feel a collective sigh of relief from all the nearby plants and trees, especially our weeping birch:

IMG_1293

On Thursday evening, I went on a walk around the neighborhood. Upon my return, I spent some time with the birch and asked it to give me a sign if the nearly dead branches (from before we moved in) had any life left in them or if I should have David trim them. By Friday afternoon, the hanging branches of dried, yellowed leaves showed bright green, new leaves on the tips! I took that as confirmation that this tree really does want to stay with us and would like even more water than I’ve been providing it. Part of me had worried that maybe I was watering it too much with the run-off from the new garden that surrounds it. I had noticed some signs of new growth on other branches but I wasn’t sure if it would have been more or less without the garden.

Now I know that this tree loves attention. Research tells me it never should have been planted so close to the driveway and walkway, because the shallow roots have nowhere to spread. The return of green to its deadened branches tells me that if I add more compost above the root zone and keep it moist, then we will likely be able to regenerate this beautiful focal point of the yard. David even bought the tree a special mini-sprinkler that we can set just over its root zone if the dry weather returns. We love our birch!

I spent most of Friday inside, just loving the greening rain. Even the indoor plants seemed extra happy:

IMG_1292

Reading on the couch of the living room that faces our backyard brought me hours of smiles, as I glanced outside to stretch my eyes:

IMG_1290

Saturday brought sunshine once again, and the groundhog patrol kitty arrived to bask in the morning warmth by our shed. Literally JUST as I typed that, the cat appeared again by the shed, almost as if on cue. He’s back in the evergreen tree line again, or I’d snap a photo. I should note that I have not seen any groundhogs in over a week now. I knew the cat had been here again, though, because peeeee-ewwwww, the perimeters of the front and back gardens — and only there had that “this is my territory, don’t mess with me” scent. It’s a small price to pay for garden guarding — well, free, actually, since it’s not even my cat and it only scents the area right after I notice a few too many nibbles in my veggies. I don’t mind sharing some, but when things get imbalanced, I call for help.

Speaking of nibbles, one thing you can count on rain to bring, is slugs. We have some slugs anyway, but after the rain, I saw clear signs of their increased presence. Just last night, as I was harvesting a cucumber and some fresh greens, tomato and herbs for our Greek salad, I looked at my kale and thought, “OK, enough is enough with the slugs!” Look who appeared today, “reporting for slug duty” — a toad!

FullSizeRender

You have no idea how much I’ve wanted a toad. Over the years, I’ve made, purchased and received as gifts various toad houses, but I have never actually seen one on any of our properties until today. This one just hopped and crawled around our porch, making sure I saw it. I actually needed to check if it was a frog or a toad, but after reading this post on how to tell the difference, I’m confident it is, indeed, a toad.

IMG_1295

I put out some filtered water, and I’ll need to remember where I put the toad house I recently unpacked. I’m sure we’ve got enough big rocks around, though. Hopefully, the snake who showed itself right before I ordered a fake snake won’t find the toad. Focus on slugs, guys! And mosquitoes. Feel free to eat no see um’s, too. 😉

In any case, that’s the update from the wild kingdom literally right outside our door. I can’t believe I can walk to so many amenities yet have this much animal life right here. I didn’t post about it because it happened the night before I got the last load of soil dumped in the driveway, but I got a flash that deer were in the vicinity and didn’t want them finding the front yard garden bounty. As if on cue, a skunk sprayed right in front of the garden. Thank goodness for air purifiers, because that scent was strong even inside! My lungs did not love it while spending so much time out front the next day, but it sure kept away the deer.

(On today’s walk, I saw definite signs of deer mowing people’s mailbox gardens to the ground. Wow, no mistaking that complete destruction, chomp marks and all! Thanks for reeking up our yard, skunk friend. I just sprayed peppermint and rosemary around the perimeter, so I got it covered this time.)

I do not yet know if I’ve managed to attract a fox to the former groundhog den. Sometimes they move in, and I’m not sure how that would go down with the kitty, so I’m not even sure I want a fox. No one nearby has chickens, as this part of our town doesn’t allow them. I do love foxes, though, and after dreaming of a fox last Thursday morning, I asked for three signs in two days (or a physical sighting) to confirm if I should fill in the groundhog den or leave it open for the fox. I did receive three in-my-face fox synchronicities in two days, plus another big one for good measure on Saturday. No sighting, though, and no signs of a fox. No signs of a groundhog, either, so the Mystery remains.
